Provincial Nominee Program

Nova Scotia NSNP

The Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP) was significantly restructured in February 2026, consolidating from 8+ streams to 4 core pathways focused on labour market priorities, construction, and healthcare.

2026 allocation: approximately 2,000 nominations. The post-February 2026 restructuring eliminated several previously available streams — verify current stream availability before beginning an application.

February 2026 Restructuring — Verify Stream Availability

Nova Scotia consolidated its PNP streams in February 2026. Several previously active streams — including the Skilled Worker stream and the Labour Market Priorities for PhD Graduates — were discontinued. Applications submitted under discontinued stream categories will be returned. Confirm the current stream list on the NSNP website before submitting.

NSNP Streams (Post-February 2026)

  • Full-time, non-seasonal job offer from a Nova Scotia employer required
  • TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 occupation
  • Minimum work experience in the target occupation required (varies by TEER level)
  • Language: CLB 5 minimum (CLB 7 for TEER 0–1)
  • Wage must meet or exceed the Nova Scotia median wage for the occupation
  • Employer must demonstrate unsuccessful local recruitment efforts
Processing: Post-consolidation, the LMP stream processes the majority of NSNP nominations. Applications are assessed on eligibility criteria.
Strategic note: The February 2026 consolidation eliminated several previously active streams (Skilled Worker stream, Labour Market Priorities for PhD graduates, etc.). Confirm which stream currently applies to your profile — using a discontinued stream category will result in application return.

Where Most NSNP Applications Fail

Stream category discontinued in February 2026 consolidation — applicant applied under a now-invalid stream
Employer did not demonstrate failed local recruitment before extending the job offer
Occupation wage below Nova Scotia median — even with a valid job offer, the wage must meet the threshold
Express Entry: occupation not targeted in the specific draw — high CRS score does not guarantee invitation
Language test below the threshold for the stream or occupation TEER level
Physician: licensing eligibility not confirmed before application submission
Related pathways: Tradespeople targeting the Critical Construction stream should review Federal Skilled Trades Program eligibility alongside NSNP. Workers needing a Nova Scotia employer-specific work permit to begin qualifying employment should arrange that first.
