Canadian Citizenship

Canadian citizenship is the final step in the immigration journey — achieved after permanent residence through programs like Express Entry or family sponsorship. Citizens enjoy full rights including voting, running for office, and holding a Canadian passport.

Eligibility Requirements

Permanent Resident Status

Must have permanent resident status in Canada and have met residency obligations

Physical Presence

1,095 days (3 years) in Canada during the 5 years before applying

Tax Filing

Filed Canadian income taxes for at least 3 years within the 5-year period

Language Proficiency

CLB 4 or higher in English or French (ages 18-54)

Knowledge Test

Pass citizenship test on Canadian history, values, institutions, and symbols (ages 18-54)
