Alberta EOI System
Since September 30, 2024, candidates for the AAIP worker streams must submit a Worker Expression of Interest (EOI) and apply only if invited. A Worker EOI is valid for one year after submission, and candidates may be invited to a stream or pathway other than the one they selected. AAIP states that "EOI score is not the only factor AAIP uses to select candidates for invitation" and that it "does not disclose recent draw parameters." Candidates in the Express Entry pool who are nominated through the Alberta Express Entry Stream receive 600 additional CRS points.
AAIP Streams
- Work permit: "At the time your application is submitted, and at the time AAIP assesses your application, you must have a valid work permit – not status maintained during processing (formerly implied status) or restoration status." Only the permit types listed on the AOS eligibility page qualify.
- Occupation: "Most occupations under NOC TEER Categories 0, 1, 2, 3 4 and 5 are eligible under AAIP." Occupations on the AOS ineligible occupations list cannot be nominated.
- Work experience: at submission you must have either "a minimum of 12 months full-time work experience in your current occupation in Alberta within the last 18 months, or a minimum of 24 months of full-time work experience in your current occupation in Canada or abroad within the last 30 months or both." "Post-Graduation Work Permit holders require a minimum of 6 months full-time work experience in your current occupation in Alberta within the last 18 months."
- Language: TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3 occupations require CLB or NCLC "Minimum of 5 for each English language skill" or "Minimum of 5 for each French language skill"; TEER 4 or 5 occupations require "Minimum of 4 for each English language skill" or "Minimum of 4 for each French language skill." For NOC 33102, "the AAIP requires a minimum language test score of CLB of 7 for each English language skill, or NCLC of 7 for each French language skill."
- Education: "you must have completed a minimum of high school education equivalent to Canadian standards," shown by an Educational Credential Assessment unless an exemption applies.
- Job offer: "All applicants, including PGWP holders, must have a full-time job offer or employment contract from an Alberta employer to work in their current occupation in Alberta when the application is submitted and when we assess it."
Recent Official Changes
August 10, 2026: IRCC provided AAIP with 200 additional nominations, "raising our total allocation for 2026 to 6,603" (AAIP updates).
2026: Up to 10,000 federal spaces are available across all provincial nominee programs for practice-ready physicians and Francophones. AAIP states that nominations of eligible physicians or Francophones "will not count toward Alberta's 6,603 nomination allocation"; Francophones "must meet CLB/NCLC 5 in French across all four competencies." AAIP adds: "No new streams or pathways are being created for this initiative" (AAIP processing information).
May 26, 2026: Candidates can now edit their Worker Expression of Interest; editing does not extend its one-year validity.
January 1, 2026: Rural Renewal Stream changes took effect for applications received on or after this date, including community endorsement limits and a one-year validity period for Endorsement of Candidate letters.
